Zambia national team striker Patson Daka produced a man of the match perfomance netting a brace to lead Austrian Bundesliga Champions, Redbull Salzburg into the round 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
Salzburg needed an outright win to secure progression to the round of 16 having suffered a 2-1 loss away in Belgium in the first leg a week ago.
Salzburg coach Marco Rose named the 2017 CAF Young player of the year in the starting line up for the first time to make his Europa League starting debut .
Salzburg have not suffered a defeat at the Redbull Arena in over two years and started strong and were handed a penalty eleven minutes into the match and Moanes Dabbur stepped up and miased. Salzburg finally broke the deadlock six minutes later as midfielder Xavier Schlager finished off with a beautiful strike after being set up by Hannes Wolf.
Salzburg doubled their lead 12 minutes later after Patson Daka and Marin Pongracic played a beautiful one two and the Zambian striker squeezed a low shot at the near post to make it 2-0 and open his UEFA Europa league goal account.
Daka completed his two minutes to half time after he got on the end of a Schlager pass to slot home from close range to take the match to the break at 3-0.
Club Brugge came back strong in the second half and put the hosts under pressure . The Salzburg defence and Alaxander Walke had all the answers however .
Rose made his first change in the 63rd minute bringing on Takumi Minamino in the place of Wolf. Zambian midfield ace Enock Mwepu joined the action in the 71st minute coming on to replace Zlatko Zunuzovic who limped off with an injury .
Brugge came close in the 84th minute but Walke made a finger tip save to keep the score at 3-0. Dabbur completed the route in additional time to make it 4-0 and 5-2 on aggregate to send Salzburg into the round of 16.
