Red Bull Salzburg 2 – 0 Rapid Wien (Farkas, Dabour)

Zambian lads Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu have added to their medals cabinet when they helped their Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg win the Austrian Cup after beating Rapid Wien 2 – 0 in the final.

Salzburg have dominated the competition and were playing in their sixth final in a row with the win on Wednesday making it 5 out of 6 wins having lost in the final last year.

Daka and Mwepu both started on the bench for the Europa League quarter finalists.

Despite Rapid starting well, it was Salzburg who went ahead in the 37th minute when left back Patrick Farkas overlapped and found himself in the box to see his low shot go between the legs of goalkeeper Strebinger for the opener.

Two minutes letter, Dabour headed home a cross from the left to give Salzburg a cushion in the tie.

Daka was introduced in the 77th minute and he should have made it three in the 79th minute when his run through the middle was picked with a good pass which he controlled well as he dashed into the box but narrowly missed the target despite doing well to get it past the on rushing goalie.

Daka popped up with the ball on the right but was crudely tackled and goal-scorer Farkas intervened to protest for the referee’s failure to award Salzburg a foul as the Chipolopolo lay down in agony. The referee instead gave Farkas a second yellow to see the Austrian champions finish the game with 10 men.

Salzburg are also on course to win the league as they have a 9 point lead ahead of second placed LASK with four games to play. They have only lost once this season.
