PAOG CONDEMNS THE SPATE OF VIOLENCE

By Chansa Kunda

The Pentecostal Assemblies of God-PAOG- Council of Bishops has condemned the current spate of violence being witnessed in the country.

PAOG- Presiding Bishop Joshua Banda says the violence being experienced is detrimental to the country’s peace and stability which should be condemned by all.

Speaking to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Bishop Banda said political parties who signed the peace accord should abide by the oath and restrain their followers from engaging in violence.

He has also applauded the Zambia police service for apprehending suspects.

And Democracy and Motherland Defender Coalition -DMDC- has called for the disqualification of candidates whose constituencies have been characterized by political violence.

Coalition Spokesperson Andrew Ntewewe says banning campaigns in areas with high levels of political violence is not a solution.

Speaking at press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Ntewewe further appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- to be firm and apply stiff punitive measures to political players abrogating the electoral codes.
