Over 680,000 residents from the C/Belt expected to have access to improved water supply

AMOS ZULUAbout 680,000 residents from four districts on the Copperbelt will by the 2021 have access to improved water supply.

This follows intentions by government to construct the 449 million United States Dollars Kafulafuta water supply system project.

Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Public Relations Officer Amos Zulu tells Q-news that the Kafulafuta water supply system project which will be launched by President Edgar Lungu on Friday will be completed in 2021.

Mr. Zulu says the project to be undertaken by China National Complete Engineering Corporation is among other benefits expected to reduce water loses from the current 64 per cent to 35 per cent through replacement of old infrastructure.

He explains that major works to be implemented under the project, include the construction of a 125 cubic meter capacity multipurpose Dam, construction of bulk water transmission pipelines, treatment plants, water distribution network, RESERVOIRS, and installation of meters.

Mr. Zulu has also disclosed that under the project, 265 houses have been constructed for the people that have been relocated from the site where the dam is being constructed.
