By Fortune Malata-Over 300 Zambian trucks destined for Zambia are marooned in Nakonde on the Tanzanian side.

Tanzanian truck drivers are protesting the move by the Zambian Government for all drivers with IT vehicles to surrender them to Zambian drivers as part of the COVID-19 measures.

The move has angered Tanzanian Truck drivers who are now stopping any vehicle from entering the Zambian side.

Truck Drivers Association of Zambia President Richard Chola has confirmed the development to ZNBC News in an interview.

Mr. Chola said the move will disrupt the transportation of goods and services.

And Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu said his Ministry and that of Commerce will today engage the Tanzanian High Commission in Zambia to help resolve the problem.

Meanwhile, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Joyce Nsamba who is in Nakonde with the Provincial Minister Malozo Sichone, told ZNBC News in a telephone interview that her office has been having meetings with all parties involved since yesterday.

Ms. Nsamba said a clear position on the way forward will be made known by the end of the day once all channels of communication have been explored.
