NOMINATION FEES REVISED

By Sylvester Chishimba:The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- says it has revised and proposed nomination fees to political parties for the 2021 General Elections.ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano has says the commission has revised the earlier proposed fees, after political parties made an appeal to the commission.Mr Nshindano says the revised fees have since been communicated to various political parties, as the consultation process over the electoral rules continue with all stakeholders.He says once the political parties respond to the revised nomination fees, the Commission will then release the new fees to the media.Mr Nshindano said this today in an interview in Chipata, where the ECZ is holding a consultative workshop on the preparations of the 2020 Mobile Voter Registration Exercise.The workshop was officially opened by ECZ Chairperson Essau Chulu.Justice Chulu said the Voter registration is one of the key ingredients for the conduct of credible elections.The ECZ is scheduled to conduct the voter registration exercise from October 19 to November 19 this year.And Justice Chulu said the Electoral Process Act Number 35 of 2016 empowers the Commission to make regulations providing for the registration of voters and for the manner of conducting elections.Justice Chulu said a new Register of Voters is greatly needed since the audit was last conducted in 2016.
