‘NO SALARY INCREMENT’ STORY FAKE -MOF

By Lazarous Sichula

The Ministry of Finance has disowned media reports suggesting that there will be NO salary increment for civil servants in the next five years.

An online platform called CHILILABOMBWE INSIDE NEWS, has reportedly quoted Finance Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE as saying salaries for civil servants can only be increased in the second term of the UPND government.

But the Ministry of Finance has clarified, in a statement to ZNBC news, that the online posting is false as Dr. MUSOKOTWANE has never made such a statement.

The Ministry said salaries for civil servants are determined through a well-structured negotiation process between the government and respective public service trade unions.

And the Ministry of Finance has disclosed that Dr. MUSOKOTWANE held a bilateral meeting with the World Bank on Tuesday September 14, 2021.

The Ministry says the Minister also had a 2020 budget consultation session with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants and Parliament.

This is in addition to having a meeting with the Millennium Project Completion Agency Zambia, which is a fore-runner to the Millennium Challenge Account Zambia.
