NKOMBO PRAISES LOCAL AUTHORITIES

Local Government and Rural Development Minister, GARY NKOMBO says the government appreciates the role that local authorities play in the development of communities, especially those in rural areas.

Mr NKOMBO says this is why government has endeavored to adequately fund the local authorities in the country to motivate the workforce who are the implementers of government policies at the local level.

He says he is a proud Minister of Local Government and Rural Development because the government has managed to consistently fund councils through the Local Government Equalization Fund.

Mr. NKOMBO said this at the 13th Quadrennial Conference of the Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union -ZULAWU- at the Livingstone ZAF Mess last night.

He said the money under the Local Government Equalization Fund for the month of May has already been released.

Speaking at the same conference, Local Government Service Commission Chairperson ACKSON SEJANI said local authorities in the country can now boast of having some of the best qualified human resource.

Mr. SEJANI said the commission has managed to fill up vacancies with qualified people to ensure improved delivery of services in local authorities.

And ZULAWU President EMMANUEL MWINSA praised the government for the timely funding to local authorities in the country.

He said the development is unprecedented and that it has motivated workers in the sector.
