NGOCC regret unfair treatment of Mumbi Phiri

Lusaka (6 – 4 – 2023 – Zambia24) – Non-Givernmental Gender Organisations Coordinator GOCC Board Chairperson Grace Sinkamba has not only regretted buy the unfair treatment of Mumbi Phiri but also urged the government to urgently review the justice system.
Sinkamba told journalists at a media briefing that the current justice system not only on the way if justice but also suppresses human liberties as witnessed by the case of Patriotic Front PF former Secretary General (SG) Mumbi Phiri is who released via nolle prosequi on judgment day.
She noted that Phiri spent 376 days in prison even when it was evident that she had no case.
She said the situation which saw Mumbi Phiri remain in prison for 376 days can be described as an abuse of the law.
In as much as the family of that slain United Party for National Development (UPND) member Lawrence Banda who was killed in cold blood in Kaoma was sad, Sinkamba said the current government should work on the justice system to help with a sensitive case like the case at hand.
She said that Zambia needs a credible constitution that will help a situation like the current Mumbi Phiri case.
Meanwhile, Sunkamba observed that the high rising case of gender-based violence in the country was extremely worrying and called for a quick intervention by the police.
Sinkamba called on the general public and all well-meaning Zambians to help in the current gender-based violence that has been a source of concern.
Sinkamba also noted that the continued abductions and killings of children need agent attention from the police and the members of the general public.
