News of Tourism Stimulus Package Cheers Livingstone Association

The Livingstone Tourism Association (LTA) has welcomed the news that the government will soon announce a Tourism Stimulus Package.

Tourism Minister Ronald Chitotela made the announcement.

LTA Chairperson Rodney Sikumba says the package will help the tourism sector in Livingstone to stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Sikumba says he is hopeful that a number of views tour operators have shared with the government through the Tourism Council of Zambia in the past will be considered.

He says the LTA would be happy if the Value Added Tax will be scrapped off for all tourism activities to make Zambia more competitive than other countries in the region.

He has also called on the government to reduce the thirty-five percent Corporate Tax which he says is discouraging potential investors from investing in the sector within Zambia.

He says the thirty-five percent Corporate Tax for the tourism sector is too high compared to other economic sectors such as agriculture that is at eleven percent.

Mr. Sikumba has further called on the government to come up with a single license as opposed to having multiple licenses for the tourism sector as it makes the process cumbersome.
