NEWS DIGGERS APOLOGISES TO PRESIDENT LUNGU

The News Diggers newspaper has apologised to President Edgar Lungu for having misquoted him when he spoke at a campaign rally in Lukashya.

The paper has unreservedly apologised to the head of state and the Patriotic Front -PF- for the damage caused by their inaccuracy in translating his message at the rally.

In the News Diggers edition of Thursday, September 17, 2020, the paper quoted President Lungu as saying “whether Zambians like it or not, he will remain President of the Republic of Zambia.”

However, the paper says it has come to their attention that the Head of State, who was speaking in Bemba, was addressing UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, and did not utter the said words.

President Lungu’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe clarified that the President said he is president whether his opponents like it or not, and that if anything happened to him, his Constitutional successor is the Vice Presiden
, Inonge Wina.

Mr. Chipampe explained in a statement issued to ZNBC News that the President is a democrat who respects the will of the people.

He said President Lungu urged all journalists to strictly adhere to their professional ethics because doing so could plunge the country into chaos.
