NEW MEDIA BODY LAUNCHED

A new Media Body called Zambia Institute of Independent Media Alliance -ZIIMA- has been launched.
Speaking during the launch in Lusaka today, ZIIMA President Jajah Coulibaly said the Alliance is born with the realization of the demand for ethical and free media profession.
Mr. Coulibaly has noted that the media in Zambia faces many challenges that continue to weigh down the profession.
He has also bemoaned the poor working conditions for journalists that have continued to decline over the years.
Mr. Coulibaly said there is need to look at having a sector wage bill for journalists as a way of improving their welfare.
And ZIIMA Consultant Besa Katongo said ZIIMA will consider policies towards the enactment of the Access to Information legislation.
Mrs. Katongo said the absence of Access to Information Legislation has contributed to making work difficult for journalists.
She said ZIIMA will look at the welfare of workers regardless of the media institution they work for.
Meanwhile, Veteran Columnist Roy Clarke said the main goal of ZIIMA is to campaign for the Access to Information Legislation.
