NAZ suspends Chambeshi indefinitely

By YVONNE SAKALA –

THE Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) has suspended Copperbelt Netball Association (CONA) president Eutrasia Chambeshi.
Chambeshi has been slapped with indefinite suspension for failing to appear before the disciplinary committee to answer charges levelled against her.
NAZ general secretary Pritchard Ngoma said in an interview that the association was left with no choice but to suspend Chambeshi indefinitely for failing to appear before the disciplinary committee.
Ngoma said NAZ was fair enough to give Chambeshi an ultimatum in which she could have defended herself before the committee concerning the allegations levelled against her.
“What we have done is that we have suspended the CONA president indefinitely because she failed to appear before the disciplinary committee after she was given a charge letter.
“We gave her time in which she could have come and defended herself but she failed to do so and we were left with no choice but to suspend her. She ceases to participate in all netball related activities,” Ngoma said.
Chambeshi is accused of failing to submit a report after confusion erupted during the CONA Open Championship where Ndola Medics players became unruly threatening violence and it had to take soldiers from Kalewa Barracks to calm the situation.
The problem started when Ndola Medics failed to stomach the 6-7 semi-final defeat to Kamfinsa that saw the players from the former threaten match officials for ‘favouring’ the other side.
The fracas went on for some time resulting in the final between Kamfinsa and Kitwe Riffles postponed.
Ngoma said NAZ expected a report about what happened but nothing came forth and that the association was forced to convene an emergency meeting for CONA officials but Chambeshi failed to attend.
