NATIONAL GUIDANCE MINISTRY CLARIFIES ON DRESS CODE

The Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs has clarified that it is NOT considering introducing a national dress code.

National Guidance and Religious Affairs Public Relations Officer Chibesa Musukwa says the ministry is aware of the diverse culture that the country is endowed with and the civil and human rights citizens enjoy.

In a statement, Mrs. Musukwa said National Guidance Minister Godfridah Sumaili was misquoted as her statement was on the National Dress and not the dress code.

She said the minister was categorical and indicated that the matter would require extensive consultation with various stakeholders should there be need for one.

Mrs. Musukwa said such could only be decided by the citizenry and cannot be imposed on the people by the ministry.

She said it is the Ministry’s considered view that the debate on the dress code is out of context.
