The Church Mother Bodies say it is regrettable that President Edgar Lungu was unable to attend the National Dialogue preparatory meeting on Friday.

And the Church Mother Bodies have announced that the National Dialogue will kick off on January 18, 2019.

In a communique in the aftermath of Friday’s preparatory meeting for National Dialogue, the church said 23 political parties attended the meeting on Friday.

“We are delighted to inform the nation that the consultative meeting of the three Church Mother Bodies and Political Party Presidents on the National Dialogue process was successfully held at Kapingila House in Kabulonga yesterday (Friday) afternoon,” the communique stated.

“Twenty three (23) political parties turned up for the consultative national dialogue meeting which lasted four hours and discussed a wide range of issues affecting the nation. The submissions made to the Church by the political party leaders were very constructive, forward looking and challenging to us as facilitators.”

The communique stated,“ We, however, regret that the Head of State, His Excellency President Edgar Lungu and other political party presidents could not attend because they did not receive the confirmation of the meeting in good time.”

The communique was signed by Bishop George Lungu of the Zambia Council for Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), Bishop Paul Mususu of the Evengelical Fellwoship of Zambia (EFZ) and Bishop Sydney Sichilima of the Christian Council of Churches (CCZ).

“Further, we wish to inform the party leaders that the date for the launch of the National Dialogue and Reconciliation process has been changed to Friday, 18th January 2019 to allow enough time to prepare for this important event. We hope Presidents and their general membership including all citizens will reserve this date for this noble cause,”
