National Assembly Counters LAZ on Bill 10

By Hannock Kasama-The National Assembly has countered the Law Association of Zambia -LAZ’s application for an interim injunction over the 2019 Constitutional Amendment Bill.Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Cecilia Sikatele has submitted that LAZ’s application must be dismissed as it allegedly lacks merit.Ms Sikatele has contended that LAZ has been invited among 56 stakeholders to make submissions over the 2019 Constitutional Amendment Bill before the parliamentary Select Committee.This is according to the National Assembly’s Affidavit in opposition to LAZ’s Affidavit in support of an Interim Injunction over the 2019 Constitutional Amendment Bill.LAZ is opposed to the mode of amending the Republican Constitution through the 2019 Constitutional Amendment Bill.The legal body has filed a petition in the Constitutional Court raising its dissatisfactions over the amendment of the Republican Constitution set out in the 2019 Constitutional Amendment Bill.LAZ has also sought an injunction on the parliamentary deliberations of the bill pending the disposal of its petition.
