Mwenge Primary School in Shiwangandu reopens

January 14, 2020January 14, 202024By Michael KaumbaHundreds of pupils at Mwenge Primary School in Shiwangandu district have returned to their school, two years after the learning facility was destroyed by torrential rains.This follows the rehabilitation of classes and donation of desks to the school by area Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo.The learners had previously been using churches and homes for learning.And Mr. Kampyongo says the government has resolved to upgrade all schools in rural areas so that no one is left behind.He says there can be no future for the country without an educated citizenry.Mr Kampyongo says government’s vision is to match standards in schools, both in rural and urban areas.And Mwenge Primary School Head Teacher Obvious Sigundu said the situation where pupils had to learn from churches and homes had become unbearable.Mr. Sigundu said members of staff at the school had become demotivated when they could not teach from the institution.And some parent and pupils expressed gratitude to the MP for rehabilitating classes at Mwenge Primary School.Mr Kampyongo later donated 60 desks at Sele Primary School which has also been rehabilitated.The Shiwangandu lawmaker is in his constituency to inspect developmental projects and hold public meetings.
