MWAKALOMBE CALLS FOR CALM AMID MINE MISHAPS

Copperbelt Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe has appealed for calm as the Mine Safety department carries out investigations into the accident that happened yesterday at the South Ore Body shaft in Kitwe.
Speaking in an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. Mwakalombe said it is regrettable that miners died in the accident.
He observes that though accidents are bound to happen in any mining company, it is important for safety measures to be put in place to ensure lives are protected.
Two more miners have died in separate incidents.
James Katai a shift boss at Jinx mining, a contractor engaged by Konkola Copper mines in Chililabombwe died after being hit by train at shaft four while Raphael Tembo a spotter at Kansanshi Mine died after being struck by lightning in a pit.
And Mines Minister Richard Musukwa is worried with the growing fatalities at Mopani Copper Mines underground operations.
