Mutati Confirms PF/MMD Alliance

Pres Lungu-MutatiMovement for Multi Party Democracy faction leader Felix Mutati has confirmed his group will enter into an alliance with the ruling Patriotic Front.

Mutati was on Saturday elected president in Kabwe when the MMD splinter group went ahead with their elective meeting despite another faction led by Nevers Mumba insisting that the meeting was illegal arguing that a conference will only be held in 2017.

The Mutati faction has the backing of former Republican President Rupiah Banda who attended the meeting in Kabwe before heading to Lusaka to attend the Patriotic Front rally at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

It is unclear what Mumba will do having paid a down payment for the August 11 general elections and offering himself as a candidate.

Mumba has had the grip on the former mighty blue party slipping away having seen an exodus of senior members going to either the PF or the UPND.

It is everybody’s guess that Mumba has hardly the financial muscle or the political appeal to mount a feasible campaign in this year’s elections.

Mutati will have to hammer out an understanding with the PF having gone into a marriage.
