Mutandwa makes Serie A debut

Zambian youngster Kingston Mutandwa finally made his Serie A debut on Sunday as he came off the bench to play the last few minutes of Cagliari’s 1-0 win over Empoli.

Mutandwa came off the bench to replace Peruvian forward Gianluca Lapadula in the 87th minute to become the second Zambia to play in Serie A after Lameck Banda.

Jakub Jankto scored the only goal of the game in the 69th minute with a close range finish.

Seven minutes earlier, Liberato Cacace saw his goal ruled offside following a VAR review.

The win takes Cagliari to 23 points and just a win away from leaving the relegation Zone.

In January, Mutandwa was included in the squad to face Bologna but did not see any action.

Mutandwa joined the Claudio Ranieri coached side in August last year penning a four year deal.

He has been in fine form for the Cagliari Calcio Youth side netting 5 goals so far this season.

The lanky forward led the attack for Zambia in 2023 at the CAF U20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt where he scored a goal for the Junior Chipolopolo.

Mutandwa later featured for Zambia Under-23 in an Olympic qualifier against Egypt.
