MUSHITALA-KIMASALA BRIDGE WORKS RESUME

By ZANIS:

Construction of Mushitala-Kimasala bridge in Solwezi, North-western province at a cost of 4-point 8 million Kwacha have resumed.

Special Assistant to the President for Project Monitoring and Implementation Andrew Chellah was in the district and inspected the works.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Chellah is happy with the progress and has expressed optimism that the project will be completed in six weeks’ time.

He added that the bridge has a lot of value to the people of Solwezi, and that the Road Development Agency -RDA- should by all means ensure the project is completed within the stipulated time.

And RDA Regional Manager Manda Ndavane explained that the works which commenced in 2015 had stalled due to financial challenges.

Mr. Ndavane noted that the project is receiving adequate attention so that it is completed not later than July 2021.

He said the project once completed will provide an alternative route to the people of Mushitala, Kimasala and Zambia Townships and help to decongest roads in the Central Business District.

He also stated that Kansanshi Mine has also partnered with RDA to work on the road connecting to the bridge which is in a deplorable state.

Meanwhile, residents have praised government for ensuring the resumption of the works on the bridge, stating that they are eagerly waiting to see the completion.
