Mushimba Donates K130, 000 to Kankoyo Farmers

Kankoyo Member of Parliament Brian Mushimba has continued his works in his constituency by donating K130, 000 toward cooperatives.

Members of Parliament customarily quietly squander any resources due to them but Mushimba who is Transport and Communications Minister has been hard at work in his constituency saying the donation is to support farmers with inputs for the 2018/19 farming season.

He said farming remains a key source of livelihood and a contributor to the country’s economic growth hence the need to empower more farmers.

“I have donated K130, 000 to the farmers in the constituency through their respective cooperatives to help them with their farming inputs for this season. Through this gesture, we hope more people that ordinarily may not have participated in farming are now motivated to dig a garden and chase away hunger from home. Sometimes, what people need is just a little motivation,” Mushimba said.

The law maker has gone a mile further to support communities in his constituency through the fish farming project.

Mushimba has announced that 24 fish ponds have been dug to be accompanied by solar water pumps with capacity to house over 5,000 fish.

“This phase of the community fish farming project in my constituency has completed. We have gone ahead and dug the boreholes too. We start installing the solar water pumps (30,000 ton per hour capacity each) tomorrow to fill the 24 ponds, each with capacity to house 5,000 tilapias. We hope to start growing fish within two weeks,” he said.

Mushimba said the same people that had been engaged to construct the ponds will be trained on the techniques of taking care of the fish and harvesting the fish at the right time.

“The women and youth cooperatives in the constituency have been in the forefront of this community project and I’m glad it’s coming to the completion and will empower them appropriately,” Mushimba added.
