MULUNGUSHI TEXTILES JOINT VENTURE GETS $153M

(ZANIS) The Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles Joint Venture – ZMCT/JV- has secured 153 million United States Dollars from its Chinese partner to replace part of its machinery at the textile plant in Kabwe.

ZMCT-JV General Manager Brigadier General MICHAEL PHIRI disclosed this in Kapiri today during the Provincial Chiefs Council meeting for Central Province.

He said once operational, the Zambia China Mulungushi Joint Venture will employ 2000 youths at its ginnery section.

General PHIRI said at the initial stage, the textile company will use equipment at the old ginnery which he said will be replaced once the new machinery arrives in the country.

He said plans to procure new equipment were already underway adding that once the machinery arrives in the country, the textile company will employ 2000 youths.

Earlier, Chief CHAMUKA of Chisamba said he needs assurance that the Company will open before he asks his people to start producing cotton.

And Chief SHAIBILA called on the Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles Joint Venture to look at diversification and value addition.
