Mufulira Wanderers taught football lesson as Rusike nets hat-trick

Sensational Zanaco on Sunday afternoon taught Mufulira Wanderers a footballing lesson when they came from behind to wallop the visiting side 6 – 1 in a game midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike scored a hat-trick.

The opening exchanges suggested nothing of such a scoreline as ‘Maite’ were on top of proceedings unsettling the hosts with the runs of Brian Chewe, Humphrey Maseneko and John Goma.

Wanderers opened the scores in the 19th minute when Goma was played through on goal on the left of the left aside and he unleashed an unstoppable shot on the edge of the box that left Racha Kola with no chance. By the time Goma was opening the scores, the visitors had already missed three good chances with the three front men all culprits.

Zanaco started the come two minutes later when Peter Banda put his name on the score sheet with what seemed to be a harmless looping header off a Julius Situmbeko assist. Edson Phiri in the Wanderers goal inexplicably got to the ball but dropped it in his own net.

Rusike who was already having so much influence on the game added a second for the hosts in the 33rd minute before finishing off a brilliant one two that saw him go round the keeper to finish off from a tight angle in the 37th minute.

With the Maite fans already calling for the header of the keeper, coach Allan Kamwanga obliged and replaced Phiri with Manyongo in the 39th minute.

Five minutes after the restart, Rusike scored his third for the day when he received a pass from Situmbeko on the left which he guided past Manyongo who had dived at full stretch.

Hardworking Chitiya Mususu who had kept the Wanderers defense on their toes through out the game got on the score sheet when he directed a shot from substitute Pitroipa into the net with the slightest of touches in the 69th minute.

At this stage, Maite were crushed and deflated and it was just a matter of time before the next goal came. Pitroipa slammed the final nail home when he smashed the ball in from inside the box for the sixth of the day.

It was a brilliant performance bu Zanaco led by Rusike, Kapumbu and Chitiya Mususu who were unmatched by the Mufulira Wanderers counterparts.

There was a bizarre moment in the game when Roger Kola outpaced his marker on the right and powered home a shot that left Phiri with no chance. Unfortunately the ball went straight through a hole in the net and the referee could not give it as it was a matter of debate owing to the pace of the ball.

The win sees Zanaco reclaim top spot in stream A with 17 points ahead of Kabwe Warriors by a point.

Wanderers remain stuck in 7th position.
