MTN Super League: Five things from the weekend

The MTN Super League week 14 came alive over the weekend with the derby bringing Kitwe to a standstill.

It was an action packed weekend, from Kennedy Musonda continuing his prowess In Front of to ZESCO United’s poor form to Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga having his moment of madness.

The ZamFoot Crew now looks at the top five moments from the weekend in the MTN Super League.

  1. Derby remains top bill fixture

The Kitwe derby has for a long time been the top most fixture in the league and it still remains such.

A number of good fixtures were on display over the weekend but it was the derby that stole the show in the run up, during and after the match.

From the atmosphere in the pitch to the action and the usual Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga moment.

  1. Kennedy Musonda Aerial Prowess

Power Dynamos talisman Kennedy Musonda took his tally for the season to nine goals over the weekend when he scored the only goal of the game in the derby.

Musonda headed in a beautiful Joshua Mutale cross to win the derby and keep Power at the summit of the table.

Of the nine goals scored by Musonda, six have been from his head proving just how lethal he is in the air.

The former Zanaco and Green Eagles forward is eying his first golden boot and with a few more pinpoint crosses from Joshua Mutale and company, he may just achieve that.

  1. ZESCO United continues to struggle

Nine time Champions, ZESCO United succumbed to a 2-0 loss away to Chambishi to make it 3 losses in a row.

The poor run is ZESCO United’s worst in recent form and could speed up the selection of a new head coach since the departure of Numba Mumamba

With Nchanga Rangers, Nkana, Red Arrows, Prison Leopards and Forest Rangers all coming up next for the Ndola side it is not looking good.

It seems Alfred Lupiya may just be a bit too dip in the pond and not ready for the Zega Mambo top job.

One may argue that it may not be the coach but what is it ? Because players wise the team has quality in comparison to most Super League sides.

  1. POOR BUILDCON

Ndola based side Buildcon FC remain as the only team in the league yet to record a win after 14 matches.

Nchimunya Mweetwa’s men have only managed 3 draws scoring seven goals and conceding a whopping 21.

Buildcon are on course to equal the record set by Mufulira Blackpool back in 2016 when they went through a season without a win.

Blackpool endured an 18 month winless run between November 2015 and May 2017.

The Kamuchanga based outfit last won a competitive match on 8th November 2015 on the day they won promotion to the Super Division and then again on 15 May, 2017.

However Buildcon has 20 games to avoid this unflattering record.

  1. THE BAZO MOMENT

Is it even a Kitwe derby without an Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga moment ? Well he again stole the show  when he was substituted.

The Nkana forward tore his shirt and kicked a Supersport microphone in protest to his withdrawal from the match which Power Dynamos won 1-0 courtesy of a Kennedy Musonda goal.

He is definitely very passionate about his game and that brings a very good dimension to the derby but sometimes he takes it just a little overboard.

Ng’onga has since been provisionally suspended by FAZ for misconduct until the disciplinary procedure is concluded
