Government is mobilizing resources to start the construction of the Mpongwe Machiya road in Mpongwe on the Copperbelt.

Minister of Infrastructure Housing and Urban Development CHARLES MILUPI says government is mindful of the economic importance of the road.

Mr. MILUPI says once worked on, the Mpongwe Machiya road, will neable commercial farmers in the area contribute to the growth of the economy and job creation for the local people.

He said this in Mpongwe during his continued inspection of road infrastructure on the Copperbelt.

And Minister of Transport and Logistics FRANK TAYALI said government will not condone shoddy works on road projects.

Mr. TAYALI said government spends more resources to work on same projects time and again because road contracts have in the past been given to incompetent contractors.

Meanwhile, Mpongwe Town Council Chairperson EMMANUEL MASANGA bemoaned the poor state of most roads in the district.

And the area MP GREGORY NGOWANI said in 2014 Mpongwe District was
allocated 20 kilometers of township roads to be worked on but that the funds for the project were diverted to other districts.
