Mother, baby burnt to death in Senanga

Two people of the same family of Nalitoya village in Senanga district in Western Province have been burnt to death after a grass thatched house they were sleeping in caught fire.

The victims identified as Ntumba Makanda, a peasant farmer aged 37 and her one year six month old baby, were burnt yesterday after their grass thatched house they were sleeping in caught fire around 22:00 hours.

An eye witness, the mother to the deceased, Kandanda Kapusa said they saw the house on fire and could not rescue the victims because the fire spread quickly cutting through the entire house.

Kapusa said the cause of the fire is not known as they were sleeping when the incident happened and were awakened when it was too late to rescue the people inside.

And Police officers who visited the scene found the two bodies still at the accident scene.

The victim is survived by five children and a husband.

Meanwhile the husband to the victim is currently away on business and was not at home when the accident occurred.

Investigations have since been initiated to find the cause of the fire, and bodies of the deceased are currently lying in state.
