M’membe Seeks Meeting With Pres. Lungu
Post Newspapers editor Fred M’membe has hit a brick wall in his quest
to meet President Edgar Lungu in a cautionary set to negotiate a
possible way out of his problems with the Zambia Revenue Authority.
M’membe has been striking a no compromise posture in his newspaper and
public with his K53 million debt with the ZRA but has been sending
emissaries to State House to secure a private meeting with President
Lungu.
So President Lungu has kept M’membe arms length which has unsettled
the media owner and chief propagandist of the ill fated cartel whose
Rainbow Party project seems doomed for failure.
M’membe has been freely taking pot shots at President Lungu but
silently reaching out for a compromise however the PF hierarchy seem
closed to such an invitation.
The Post Newspapers is riddled with the taxman’s obligations and also
have other statutory obligations piling up in other sister projects.
So far workers routinely live without regular pay with the mantra of
persecution by the state working as a plausible excuse by M’membe.
M’membe has another long standing K14 million debt owed to the
Development Bank of Zambia under the defunct Zambian Airways that he
has spiritedly refused to pay pulling every imaginable trick from his
‘no tax payment manual’.
