“M’membe Condemns Global Imperialism”

… M’membe Calls for Global Solidarity in the Fight for Sovereignty

By Francis Maingaila

Lusaka, Zambia24 — (17-08-2024) -Socialist Party president Fred M’membe delivered a pointed critique of global imperialism, expressing solidarity with Venezuela while condemning U.S. interference in Latin American politics.

Speaking before the press, M’membe highlighted Venezuela’s resilience amidst years of sanctions, noting the country’s drastic drop in oil revenue from $50 billion to $700 million.

“Despite the hardship, Venezuela has survived,” he said. “This isn’t about democracy; it’s about Venezuela’s resources and its independent stance, which threatens U.S. interests.”

M’membe praised Venezuela’s recovery, noting its impressive GDP growth and near-complete food self-sufficiency, with inflation dropping to 1%.

However, his message was also a call to action. “The U.S. has a long history of rejecting election outcomes that don’t serve its agenda. From Chile to Venezuela, the priority has always been to protect its own interests, regardless of the cost to others.”

He drew parallels to Africa, citing U.S. interventions in Zimbabwe, Libya, and Somalia as examples of destabilization rather than progress.

“We won’t allow ourselves to be tools for imperialism,” he said firmly. “We stand with those fighting for self-determination—whether in Venezuela, Palestine, or Africa.”

M’membe closed with a reminder: “Imperialism forces change, but we must never lose our dignity—whether in Venezuela, Africa, or Zambia.”

He urged the press to share Venezuela’s story, stressing that its fight for sovereignty and justice resonates globally.
