MMD mourns Lupando

Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) facti Nevers Sekwila Mumba says his party will miss a true servant of the people in Lupando Katoloshi Mwape.

Dr. Mwape died today in South Africa where he was receiving specialist treatment.

In a statement issued today, Dr. Mumba first give a brief history of Dr. Mwape.

“On the political front, Dr. Mwape became the MMD member of Parliament for Lukasha Constituency in 2001. In 2003, he became Chairperson of the MMD Executive in Northern Province. He later became a Party Trustee of Our Party and became a Member of our National Executive Committee, a position he held up to 2007,” Dr. Mumba said.

“On the government front, he was first appointed as Minister of Transport and Communication in 2001. He later on moved to Northern Province as Provincial Minister in 2004. Later on in October, he was appointed as Republican Vice President and took over from me. He held this position up to 2006. He then served as Zambia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.”

Dr. Mumba further says Dr. Mwape who served as Republican Vice President after him was instrumental in the reelection of late Republican President Dr. Levy Mwanawasa.

“Dr. Mwape spearheaded the re-election campaign of President Mwanawasa in 2006.”

Dr. Mumba further said that his party will greatly miss Dr. Mwape.

“As a Party, We will miss the warmth, humility and wisdom of Dr. Lupando Mwape.”
