Ministry of Mines develops draft critical minerals strategy

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has developed a draft critical minerals strategy to leverage from emerging global opportunities in electric batteries and green energy transition.

Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary HAPENGA KABETA says the Ministry is currently receiving comments from stakeholders on the strategy.

Dr. KABETA says the critical minerals strategy highlights key interventions by government focusing on harnessing benefits from exploitation of the country’s vital minerals through strategic partnerships.

He further says the Ministry plans to undertake high resolution geographical surveys in parts of North Western, Southern, Western and Central Provinces in 2024.

Dr. KABETA was speaking in Lusaka today during a Stakeholders consultative meeting on the draft strategy for attaining three million metric tonnes of copper production per annum by 2031.

And  Policy Monitoring and Research Center -PMRC- Executive Director SYDNEY MWAMBA said the Consultative meeting to review the  draft strategy for the actualization of the three million metric tonnes of Copper in a decade signifies government’s commitment to boost Zambia’s Copper production.
