Ministry of Health Deploys 1, 050 Staff in Eastern Province Since 2017

Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya says government has sent 1,050 health staff to Eastern Province from January 2017 to date.

In a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Health permanent secretary for administration Dr Kennedy Malama during the combined graduation of 222 nurses and midwives from St Francis, Chipata and Mwami schools of nursing at Mwami Adventist Hospital, Dr Chilufya said this year government had already sent 82 health workers to the province.

He said the health sector has set a target of recruiting 30, 000 health workers by 2021 as outlined in the National Health Strategic Plan for 2017 and 2021.

Dr Chilufya said government recognizes that for the country to have economic productivity its people must be healthy and productive.

He said government has continued with infrastructure development agenda.

The three nursing schools appealed to government to address transport challenges and shortage of students accomodation that they are facing.

The graduation was also attended by chief Madzimawe and Eastern Province PS Chanda Kasolo among others.
