“MINE JOB CUT NOTICES ARE NULL & VOID”

Government has declared as null and void notices of redundancies issued by mining companies until the outcome of the ongoing Mine audit is known.
And Mines Minister Richard Musukwa has directed Labour Commissioner Chanda Kaziya to cancel all the redundancy notices issued by some Mining companies.
Mr. Musukwa says Government will not allow any mining companies to proceed with the retrenchment until the current audit is concluded.
The minister said this in a telephone interview with ZNBC News in Kitwe.
And Mine Workers Union of Zambia President Joseph Chewe has disclosed that Kansanshi and Lumwana have withdrawn the retrenchment notices issued to the unions in the sector.
Mr Chewe said no other Mine has so far issued any redundancy notices.
Kansanshi and Lumwana had indicated that they will retrench 2,500 workers due to the revised 2019 taxation regime.
