Massive Water Project Set For CB

Government has rolled out a massive water project on the Copperbelt which will see households in peri urban areas have access to clean and safe water.Community Development Minister, Kampamba Chewe says it is President Edgar Lungu’s desire for every Zambian to have access to safe and clean water.Mrs. Chewe says it is sad that some parts of the Copperbelt, Kalulushi included are still relying on Wells for water 55 years after independence.The Minister who is also Kalulushi Member of Parliament says residents in most townships and compounds have no access to piped water.She was speaking in Kalulushi when she launched the water project funded by Direct Aid, a Kuwait nongovernmental organisation.Mrs. Chewe thanked Direct Aid for cushioning government efforts to bring development to un-serviced areas.And Direct Aid Country Manager Abubakar Hamdouk says all schools and health posts running without water in Kalulushi, Chingola and Lufwanyama will be installed with commercial boreholes and electric pumps to improve supply.Mr. Hamdouk said boreholes will also be sunk in all households with no piped water in the region to ensure residents have access to safe and clean water.Meanwhile, the residents have commended government for improving water supply.
