MANUFACTURERS LOSING 30% OF THEIR PRODUCTION DUE TO LOAD-SHEDDING

The Zambia Association of Manufacturers -ZAM says the ongoing 8-hour load-shedding has cost firms around 30% of their production in an industry that should essentially operate 24 hours a day.
Association President Ashu Sagar warns that Zambia’s energy demand will rise as new mines come online and full production resumes at Konkola Copper Mines-KCM and Mopani.
According to Mr. Sagar, Zambia must increase its generation capacity and balance energy costs on both the demand and supply sides to attract investment.
He tells Phoenix News that manufacturing depends on the availability of energy at the right price, and that rising energy costs will make the sector uncompetitive.
