Mansa: Police arrest four people for stealing bones from graves for ritual purposes

FOUR people in Mansa district have been arrested by police after they illegally exhumed human bones for ritual purposes.Among those arrested include a witch finder and all the four are expected to be charged with trespassing on a burial place.Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo has confirmed the news to Mwebantu in a statement.She identified those arrested as Emmanuel Kasuba aged 35 also known as “Doctor Cheswa”, Francis Malemba aged 50, Ngandwe Balakeni aged 35 all of Chitente Village, Chief Milenge of Mansa and Conelious Mwilambwe aged 56 of Chilumba village Chief Kasoma Bangweulu of Samfya District who is also a witch finder.Katongo said it is alleged that the suspects went to Nengenenge burial site and exhumed a body of a named deceased person who died in 2010 and removed a bone from the remains which they allegedly hid at a named place in Chief Mibenge.She said after visiting the burial site, police discovered two graves were tempered with.“After investigations, suspected human bones and other human remains were recovered yesterday and are yet to be subjected to forensic examination,” said Katongo.She said the suspects are still detained in police custody and yet to be charged.
