Mansa gets K5m for modern market

By RABECCA CHIPANTA –

GOVERNMENT has released more than K5 million for the construction of an ultra modern provincial market in Mansa.
Mansa Municipal Council public relations officer Chris Mulaliki said in an interview yesterday that the market to be constructed at an initial cost of K5.2 million will be implemented by Afri Wood and Development Limited.
Mr Mulaliki said the contractor was already on site and works would commence soon.
He said the Government decided to put up the ultra modern market as it was the central trading area of Luapula Province, hence it would accommodate traders from other districts such as Samfya and Nchelenge among others.
“The project will take 52 weeks to complete and will be spear headed by Mansa council. The structure will consist of an ablution block, stands and shops among other things,” he said.
Mr Mulaliki said the market would also enhance trade activities as traders had for a long time been operating from an open area, where the structure will be put up.
He added that the traders have since been relocated to another area to pave way for the construction works.
Mr Mulaliki said the design of the market had been done by the council and would ensure the contractor implemented the project as desired.
