Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo says reports that the Zambia Police Service has banned election campaigns by opposition parties in Mangango Constituency between 14th and 18th November are not true.

Mr. Kampyongo has told Parliament that to the best of his knowledge no ban on the campaigns has been imposed by the Police.

He has assured opposition political parties taking part in the Mangango parliamentary by-elections of a level playing field, adding that government endeavors to hold an election that is free of intimidation, but upholds democratic tenets.

The Home Affairs Minister has since commended the political parties taking part in the Mangango by-elections for conducting peaceful campaigns thus far.

The electorate in Mangango goes to the polls on November 20th to elect their parliamentary representative following death of former Member of Parliament Naluwa Mweene.

Meanwhile Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has called on Police Officers deployed in Mangango Constituency of Kaoma District to ensure that law and order prevails in the area before, during and after the elections.

Addressing the officers in Mangango, Mr Kanganja says all lawlessness should be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law.

He has cautioned officers against participating in active politics as their responsibility was to protect all members of the public irrespective of their political affiliation.

Mr Kanganja has however, thanked all political parties taking part in the by-election and members of the public for conducting themselves peacefully during the ongoing campaigns.

He has since encouraged all political parties and members of the public to continue on the prevailing peaceful path.
