Maize Floor Price Increased By K10

maize-zambia-reportsPresident Edgar Lungu has given farmers something to look forward to after announcing a K10 increase in the floor price for maize.

The increment takes the price to K85 with farmers encouraged to sell to the private sector where the price is deemed better.

President Lungu made announcement on his tour of Nampundwe area where he also graced a an agricultural show in Chief Shakumbila’s area.

He said that the increase was meant to reward farmers for producing a bumper harvest even under poor weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the government of Zimbabwe has requested to buy maize from Zambia at US$259 per tonne.

Agriculture minister Given Lubinda said the country was in an enviable position where they had enough maize
stock with everyone around the region starved for the commodity.
