Lusaka Residents Welcome The Extension Of Voter Registration Hours With Variant Reactions

Some Lusaka residents have expressed divided reactions over the extended hours of voter registration by the Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ-.

In an effort to attain the target of registering 9 Million voters in 30 days, the ECZ revised the number of hours for registration with some centres operating from 06hrs to 22hrs while civic centres countrywide are operating 24hrs.

Those talked to by Phoenix News explain that the extension of hours from 06-22hrs possess a risk to voters moving at night.

Others have called on the ECZ to consider having more registration centres and equipment as it is the only way that will give access to a number of voters to be registered and will quicken the registration process.

However, others have welcomed the extension of operating hours saying the move will allow those that do not have time during the day due to work.
