Lusaka police officer shot in stomach by fellow officer

A Police officer has been shot in the stomach by his fellow police officer in an incident that happened at Munali Police Post in Lusaka’s Kaunda square Stage one.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo, who has confirmed the incident to QTV News, has identified the victim as Constable Lennox Kapila .

Ms. Katongo says the suspect who shot his fellow police officer  has been identified as Constable Edwin Kabasiya of Meanwood Kamwena Police post.

She states that the incident occurred yesterday on Friday the 4th January, between 20 :45 hours and 2100 hours at Munali Police Post.

The Police spokesperson narrates that Constable Kabasiya is reported to have gone to Munali Police Post where he picked up a quarrel with Constable Kapila and later shot him using an AK 47 riffle.

She says the victim sustained a gunshot wound in the right side of the stomach and was rushed to Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital.

Ms. Katongo notes that  the suspect is, however, on the run armed with an AK 47 riffle.

He says a manhunt has since been launched for the suspect.
