Lusaka And Kitwe City Councils Suspended

By Prudence Siabana

Local Government Minister Charles Banda has with immediate effect suspended the operations of Lusaka and Kitwe City Councils for 3 months due to illegal land allocation.

This follows investigations carried out in Lusaka’s Emmasdale Township where illegalities in planning permissions were established and Kitwe where illegal land allocation is rampant.

Speaking at a joint media briefing with his Lands and Natural Resources counterpart Jean Kapata in Lusaka this morning, Dr Banda warned that government will not tolerate any illegality and disorderly allocation of land by any officer or civic leader.

Dr. Banda says the Ministry will this week appoint administrators to run the two councils as investigations into the matter continue.

Meanwhile, Lands And Natural Resources Minister Jean Kapata has withdrawn the land agencies from the two councils for three months to allow for correction of the illegalities.
