Lungu Salutes UN

President Edgar Lungu has thanked the United Nations for its support to Zambia’s sustainable development.President Lungu acknowledges that the UN has been supporting Zambia in the areas of education, health, social protection, water and sanitation, refugees and children’s rights among others.The Head of State was speaking during the presentation of credentials by New United Nations Coordinator Ndeye Gadio and Tunisia’s Ambassador to Zambia Bouzektri Rmili at State House.And the President said he is hopeful that the separation of the functions of the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Development Programme -UNDP- Resident Representation will have a positive impact on sustainable development.He said Zambia welcomes the reinvigorated United Nations Resident Coordinator system, as it will ensure the UN activities are in line with the ambition of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.Meanwhile, President Lungu reiterated Government’s commitment to the promotion of investment and private sector development to which he urged the New Tunisia Ambassador to Zambia to take an interest in.And the New United Nations Coordinator has commended President Lungu for playing an important role in promoting peace in the Southern African region.Dr. Gadio further praised the people of Zambia for maintaining political stability in the country.She also explained that the UN reforms aim to bring a repositioned UN development system with a stronger, reliable and effective partnership to countries for achieving the 2030 agenda.
