Lungu Opens National Assembly

September 13, 2019September 13, 20196President Edgar Lungu has officially opened the fourth session of the twentyth National Assembly with a call for all to do more for less amid  Austerity measures.And President Lungu has directed the Minister of Energy to prioritise power and water supply in  hospitals and health centres, effective midnight tonight.President Lungu says the effects of climate change that the country is experiencing are a serious source of concern for his government.He says climate change is a phenomena that no country in the world can run away from, hence the need to fight its effects vigorously.The President says because Zambia has not been spared by the adverse effects of climate change, the onus is not only on government but all stakeholders to fight its effects.Prior to his speech, the Head of State led parliament in observing a minute of silence for the late Katuba Member of Parliament, Patricia Mwashingwele , who passed away on 2nd May, 2019.The theme for his address was ‘Accelerating Sustainable Development For a Better Zambia Amidst the Impact Of Climate Change.’The 4th session is expected to sit for 53 days from September 13th to 18th December, 2019.
