LUNGU CONCERNED WITH RISING COVID CASES

Etambuyu Katota-President EDGAR LUNGU has warned that government may be compelled to enforce drastic measures if people do not adhere to the stipulated health guidelines against COVID-19.

The President has noted with regret that there is low compliance to Covid-19 guidelines hence a surge in cases.

Conveying a message of caution during today’s Covid-19 update through Health Minister CHITALU CHILUFYA, the President expressed concern with the rise in the number of cases and that he is monitoring the situation.

He said a common trend of person-to-person transmission of the virus has been observed from patients who may have attended weddings, funerals or night spots.

MEANWHILE, President LUNGU said Zambia is on course to introduce the COVID-19 vaccine in February this year.

He said there are international standards and systems that pre-qualify vaccines.

The Head of State has urged opposition political parties to avoid spreading falsehoods on the vaccine and advised Zambians to accept it when it comes as all pre-processes have been conducted.

And Zambia has in the last 24 hours recorded 4-hundred and 11 new Covid-19 cases and 4 deaths.

MEANWHILE, Ministry of Health Director Infectious Diseases LLOYD MULENGA said vaccines are safe and encouraged people to accept them when available.
