LUNGU CALLS FOR CONSERVATION FARMING

President Edgar Lungu has urged farmers to adopt good agricultural practices in the wake of erratic rainfall patterns.
President Lungu says farmers should take up conservation farming and other modern forms of farming to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
The Head of state has observed that shifting rainfall patterns have seen the northern half of the country receive favourable rainfall while the Southern half is experiencing erratic rains.
And President Lungu has pledged to accelerate the development of the agriculture sector in North Western Province.
Speaking when he launched the 2018-2019 planting season in Mwinilunga , North Western province today, President Lungu said the region is blessed with rich soils and abundant rains and government wants to exploit this for the benefit of the country.
He said his vision is to transform the North Western province into the country’s food basket.
President Lungu urged the people in the province to utilise the good natural resources and favorable rainfall patterns to increase agricultural production.
He called on traditional leaders to embrace both local and foreign investors who may be interested in investing in agricultural production.
President Lungu thanked the people of North Western province for turning up in large numbers to welcome him and witness the launch of the planting season.
