Luanshya Municipal Council Predicts Rise In Revenue Collection For 2020

By Chileshe Mwango

The Luanshya Municipal Council has projected a double revenue collection in terms of property land rates from industries located in the district as well as residential property owners for the year 2020.

Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda tells Phoenix News that the local authority and CNMC Luanshya copper mines have agreed on an upward adjustment of the mine’s land rates while residential property owners have been granted a 200 percent reduction.

Mr. Chanda says with this development, the mines will pay twice the previous K10.8 million per year while residential property owners will also be expected to promptly honor their obligation now that the rates have been reduced.

The Luanshya Mayor has disclosed that the local authority has not had challenges with CMNC Luanshya copper mines when it comes to paying land rates as has been the case with residential property owners.
