Local Contractors to Engage Govt on Housing

National Association for Medium and Small-Scale Contractors  is ready to engage government to help reduce the cost of building housing Units in the country.General Secretary Danny Simumba says government should also come up with procurement policies which will only allow the procurement of building materials locally.Mr. Simumba says this will help government build low cost housing units to bridge the housing deficit in the country.Mr. Simumba was speaking with ZNBC News in Lusaka.He said government should also invest in research development before undertaking any construction project for easy assignment of bidder’s submissions on projects.Mr. Simumba noted that calls by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development to reduce the construction cost of housing units in the country is timely.Meanwhile the National Council for Construction -NCC- has warned local contractors working on various infrastructure projects across the country to improve or risk losing their contracts.NCC Director Registration and Regulations, Ernest Nshindano says the council will not tolerate premature failure or substandard works on various projects countrywide.Mr. Nshindano told ZNBC News that the council is committed to driving the country’s infrastructure development agenda.And Mr. Nshindano adds that the council is determined to ensure that Zambian contractors with good track records are given contracts in line with the 20 percent subcontracting policy.
