License suspended for clinical officer who posted pictures of clients online

THE Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has suspended the practicing license for Clinical Officer of Nansenga Clinic in Itezhi-tezi, Central Province for allegedly infringing on the patients’ right to privacy.
It is alleged that the suspect identified as a Mr Mwansa Chalwe license holder number HPCZ 10/2/14/06491 posted pictures of clients (Patients) during an ART session on his Facebook.
But HPCZ Senior Public Relations Officer Terry Musonda in a statement said Chalwe’s conduct was unprofessional as it violated the patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality.
Musonda said the alleged action by the Clinical Officer General was unethical and a professional misconduct.
He said Chalwe has since been served with a letter of suspension of his practising license while HPCZ conducts further investigations into the matter.
“To this effect, Mr. Chalwe will not be allowed to attend to patients and is not permitted to perform any duty at any health facility until the matter is determined,” said Musonda.
And Musonda said HPCZ   has also written to both the Provincial and District Health Offices in Central Province informing them of this decision.
