Please publish my opinion on Linda Kasonde, LAZ and its statement regarding the ZRA And Post Saga. Feel Free to publish my name.

The Law Association of Zambia released a statement where they made their position very clear as regards the Post saga. According to LAZ through their president post is being discriminated against. Through that statement however LAZ never explained the laws that have been breached by ZRA when they made a seizure. They didn’t explain to us the tax act and how ZRA needs to operate in relation to that. In my mind i was left wondering, LAZ is full of the best legal brains in this country. How on earth did they come up with an opinion devoid of the legal stance they uphold

and go on talking press freedom? The Law Says tax must be paid and LAZ laboured to protect the person who hasn’t paid up. However LAZ issued a statement that was too plain in its legal content. It sounded like someone’s opinion on a matter and not a legal opinion. If that was the case Linda Kasonde should have issued that in her on personal Capacity. Without regards to evidence of unpaid tax liabilities provided by ZRA, LAZ went on to claim it was political without any of their evidence to back up that claim. Without touching on laws breached and to what extend. There was joy when Linda Kasonde was elected LAZ president. It was joy for women folk in this country however, she immediately raised an issue of office bearers in government and continuity in their offices. She brought a burning debate among various stakeholders only to discover that, that issue is clearly written in black print in the constitution.

It took ECL to read it out to the entire nation via press conference. Our Linda just didn’t read and wasted alot of peoples time. Now its an issue of ZRA, Post and now according to LAZ government political interest. lets see how this will unfold. If not careful LAZ will end up being reshaped to pressure groups like an NGO similar to women for change and so on and so forth. A fit that would put the legal profession in this country at question.
